Four Eyes: Warby Parker

I’m on the hunt for a new pair of prescription glasses, which is why I ordered a free Warby Parker home try-on kit. Warby Parker allows visionary impaired folks like myself to test out five pairs of glasses and then send them back as soon as you’re finished. All of the frames (including lenses) by Warby Parker are only $99, which makes this thrifty girl very happy. Plus, whenever you buy a pair of glasses, they provide a pair to someone in need.

I wanted to get a feeling for what types of frames and coloring might look best on my face, but I figured you guys will be able to give me better insight. I so badly want oversized specs to look good on me, but I was doomed with a super angular face and they always end up looking ridiculous. I am also a big fan of BonLook’s eyewear, where I kind of fell in love with their “Happy Tuesday” pair of glasses in grey (all the way at the bottom).

PS. Pardon my unfortunate hair, I’m trying to grow it out and it is nearing the awkward mullet-esque phase.

Which of the Warby Parker glasses above would you recommend? Or, are they all duds? Don’t worry, I know Owen and Tenley aren’t winners. Although they do look quite stylish on Betty White and Charsi in my unbiased opinion.

Do you think these grey glasses by BonLook would be flattering for me (see ridiculous screenshot below)?

All I know is I can’t wait to not have to wear these Candie’s glasses anymore (this is what happens when the optician pressures you into purchasing something on the spot). If I see another fifteen-year-old wearing my current pair of specs, I’m going to lose. it. Thanks in advance for your honest feedback, and don’t worry, you won’t hurt my feelings if you vote for none of the above.

    • Love the langston, with Reese coming in a close second. I finally bought a new pair of glasses a year or two ago after having had the same pair since I was 16 or 17…it was definitely time. Mine are similar to the langston shape, which is probably why I picked ‘em, but I definitely think that shape looks better on you than the rounder lenses do!

My fav is Carlen, Langston is in second place.

Reece is too square. Tenley and Owen are totally out there, but do look good on the pups.

I also like the grey glasses.

      Good luck!

    • Reese! I love those!! I’ve been thinking of doing the warby parker route for my first pair of glasses since I’m needing a light prescription but don’t want to shell out a million bucks for them!

Yay, my area of expertise!! I must say, the Carlen one’s are my fav. They are a great color for you and look like they fit very well. And they’re bold without being ridiculous. I would say steer clear of the Owen/Tenley looks…you’re lovely face is just lost in giant hipster plastic-ness:( I like the Bonlook glasses in the simulation, but I’d have to see them on. Grey is such a great tone for you too!

Gah, I just read that most people like the Owen’s. Well, here’s my thoughts-it’s tough picking something that is really trendy right now, bc there’s always a chance that it won’t last, and that you’ll want to change as soon as the trend does. You can go bold and go plastic, but I think you have such a petite face, that you should probably stick with the smaller, rectangular shape. Plus it will most likely be optically better for you, since you won’t get as much distortion in your peripheral-which you would have a great deal of if you went the large round-ish route.

It sucks, I know..I wish I could wear cat-eye frames SO BAD. SO bad. But they just don’t fit my face, and I have to accept that so I don’t look like a total idiot wearing these glasses that make me look like a looney tune!

Have you tried any fun colors, like a deep burgundy or purple? They are popular right now, so there’s a lot of styles that come in those colors. We have a lot at my work…which by the way, I have news about that whole situation. We should get together and chat about my soon-to-be new job venture!!

ps-were the frames I gave you total duds? If so you can just take them to where they recycle glasses-most places can still use them:)

      • hiii! i’m so glad you chimed in! i agree with you about everything. carlen was my fave. i thought owen and the other large pair were too trendy and won’t be timeless even remotely. they might look sort of cute now (which i don’t even think they do!) but in a year i will be aching for a new pair i’m sure.

i have been trying to find a pair of frames in a fun color, but reds and purples don’t look so great on me. i think i’m going to use the green pair you gave me as my backup, i just need my prescription put into them obviously ha. i like to have two pairs to rotate them when i’m bored :) i’ll be sure to recycle the red pair, unless you can think of someone who might want them! thanks for those!

i wish i could see the bonlook frames before ordering them, but i just have a hunch that they will be the most flattering on me, so i think i’m going to order them. they allow exchanges/refunds, so i’m crossing my fingers it works out.

thanks for your advice, you rock!

I like Reece, but I’ll throw out there with Valerie that I’ve had both deep red and purple frames and been happy with them.

Also, I’ve spotted a male cashier at the grocery store wearing my current frames. Don’t feel bad about younger girls spotted wearing yours!

I think the BonLook’s look the best, but without actually trying them on there’s no telling. As long as you can get a refund if it doesn’t work out, I’d say go for it!

Out of the ones you tried on, I like Reece the best. Something about them being so squared and not even trying to round out. I think they really stand out without completely taking over your face. And they still look different from your current frames without being too wacky.

And I totally feel you on the Candies. Except if I see another photo of MYSELF from the 10th grade wearing the same pair of glasses I still have 10 years later, I’LL completely lose it.

    • Tie between langston and carlen. Those glasses are totally cool. I just bought a new pair of glasses tonight. Worst experience ever. And I’m NOT in the 10th grade. Errr. I’ll look into these next time!
